She was not one of the great women who made political history. Guided by her conscience, she steadfastly opposed the religious and political ambitions of her husband during the most crucial phase of the Saxon-Wettin quest for power. Unintentionally, she became an important factor in religious policy for the nobility, the clergy, and the entire Protestant-Lutheran population of Saxony, even becoming a symbol of resistance against a feared re-Catholicization of the country.
