This book describes for the first time all aspects of an ancient magical and medicinal plant from Mexico: "Salvia divinorum," also known as "diviner's sage." This plant became known particularly through Maria Sabina, who used "Salvia divinorum" as a substitute in healing rituals during times when mushrooms were not available. Through Maria Sabina's contact with Gordon Wasson and Albert Hofmann in the 1950s, "Salvia divinorum" was further researched and made accessible to the Western scientific community. Based on historical sources, the book provides detailed information on botanical relationships, cultural practices, active ingredients, pharmacological properties, and both early and contemporary uses of this still legendary plant.
