Scharif tells the story of Sami, the story of her life in Syria, and the story of Sami's scars, each with its own tale. Scharif weaves them together, story by story: of friends and foes, of Sami's great love Josephine and the wise postman Elias, the protector of friends. He recounts their childhood in the streets of Damascus, their devilish tricks to survive school. As their resistance against the dictator grows and the uprising in Daraa breaks out, the friends must go underground and eventually flee. Since then, Sami's trail has gone cold.
