The Silesian poet Horst Lange (1904-1971) is regarded today as one of the most important representatives of "inner emigration." His main work, "The Black Willow," depicts the fate of two villages and their inhabitants, intricately linked to the marshy landscape of the region around Legnica. In the style of magical realism, it creates an image of an apocalyptic time, reflecting the restless insatiability of humanity in a harmonious nature that remains indifferent to life and death.
