The Kalahari is the largest contiguous sand area in the world. The unparalleled Okavango inland delta is fed by a powerful river that originates in the Angolan highlands. Where once there was an extensive sea, today there exists a massive salt lake. Miserable heat, double-digit subzero temperatures, drought, and enormous floods characterize the Kalahari, as do fierce thunderstorms and mild nights under a captivating starry sky.
