Product details

The architecture of the Renaissance refers to the architectural style that emerged between the early 15th and late 16th centuries in various regions of Europe, which consciously aimed to revive and further develop certain elements of Roman antiquity. The Renaissance style emphasizes symmetry, proportion, geometry, and the arrangement of architectural components, as seen in many preserved structures from ancient Rome. The systematic arrangement of columns, pilasters, and strips, along with the construction of arches, domes, and niches—also known as wall niches (edicule)—replaced the complex proportional systems and irregular profiles of Gothic architectural elements and buildings. The author and architect Dr. Albrecht Haupt presents the architecture of the Renaissance in France and Germany in this volume from 1916, illustrated with 396 images and 8 plates.
