The author Hermann Jäger (1815-1890) was a gardener and garden writer. Jäger was appointed as court gardener in Eisenach by the directive of the Grand Duke, effective April 1, 1845. He took up this position in March 1845. His superior at that time was the Grand Ducal Garden Inspector and Councilor Professor Friedrich Gottlieb Dietrich (1765-1850). Jäger was responsible for the gardening oversight of the landscape garden of the Eisenach Charterhouse as well as the park of the nearby Wilhelmsthal Palace, which also included a nursery.
