Product details

The author Friedrich Rosen (August 30, 1856 in Leipzig; November 27, 1935 in Beijing) was a German Orientalist, diplomat, and politician. From May to October 1921, he served as the German Foreign Minister. Alongside his anglophile disposition, he maintained a lifelong affinity for Oriental culture. Since 1887, he taught Persian and Urdu at the Seminar for Oriental Languages in Berlin. He worked as a representative in Beirut and Tehran before being assigned to establish a consulate in Baghdad in 1898. Following Kaiser Wilhelm II's trip to Palestine, Rosen was appointed consul in Jerusalem. In 1902, he accompanied the Persian Shah Mozaffar ad-Din Shah on his visit to Germany and acted as an interpreter for him and the Persian delegation at the court of Kaiser Wilhelm II. For his cultural mediation, he was awarded the Imperial Order of the Sun and Lion of Persia, second class.
