The natural scientist, anthropologist, and director of the Zoological Museum in Dresden, Adolf Bernhard Meyer, describes in this volume the collection of deer antlers at the Royal Castle of Moritzburg near Dresden. Between 1542 and 1546, Duke Moritz had his hunting lodge furnished with hunting trophies in the Renaissance style. The collection of red deer antlers is considered one of the most significant in the world. The most impressive part of the trophy collection is displayed in the dining hall, where many of the 71 red deer trophies are aged between 270 and 400 years. They mostly originate from the electoral Saxon hunting grounds or were acquired as purchases or gifts to Moritzburg. Among them is also the almost two-meter-wide and currently heaviest red deer antler in the world, weighing 19.8 kg. Illustrated with 30 plates, this is a reprint of the original edition from 1883.
