The author Carl Hilty (1833 - 1909) describes in the present volume "Happiness - Part One" among other things the art of working, good habits, the art of having time, and the significance and origin of humanity. His discussions on the question "What is education?" are based on the understanding that true education and happiness can only be achieved through overcoming human conflict. With his three volumes "Happiness" - published in 1890, 1895, and 1899 - Hilty achieved great success in publishing. The happiness volumes reached extraordinarily high print runs and sold in the tens of thousands even during his lifetime. They were translated and published in Russian, Scandinavian languages, and even in America, where a collection of essays was released. These books were also part of the reading material for Konrad Adenauer, providing him with spiritual guidance especially during the dark Nazi era. Reprint.
