This work deals with claims for damages in the event of a violation of privacy. After a brief introduction, the concepts of personality, personality rights, privacy, and the right to privacy are explained in detail. Numerous provisions that protect this important good are highlighted. The core of the work is the examination of claims for damages in cases of privacy violations according to the Austrian Civil Code (ABGB), the Data Protection Act 2000 (DSG 2000), and the Media Act (MedienG). To achieve better understanding, the legal foundations of liability for damages are presented, as well as the development of Austrian data protection law and media law. In a concluding section, the topic is summarized.
