Corsin Fontana, born in 1944 in Chur and living in Basel since 1968, is one of the most important Swiss artists of his generation. From an early age, he incorporated unusual materials into the art context and engaged intensively with nature, its processes, and its transience. His work over the past four decades is divided into distinct groups that explore new formal and thematic aspects, characterized by a surprising approach to artistic media. This comprehensive monograph documents for the first time the entire spectrum of Fontana's work, from early microstructures to his most recent pieces. Fontana is an object artist, sculptor, painter, draftsman, printmaker, and has organized installations and happenings, as well as realized significant art-in-architecture projects.
