Product details

The photographer and filmmaker Jürg Hassler, born in 1938, spent many years intensively engaged with the sculptural work of Hans Josephsohn (1920-2012). As a teenager, his school route took him past the artist's studio in Zurich every day, which sparked Hassler's interest in the sculptor's work. After graduating from high school, Hassler began working as an assistant to Josephsohn, learning the craft of sculpture. Following his studies in photography in Vevey and concurrently pursuing his own sculptural work, Hassler created the film "Josephsohn - Stein des Anstosses" in 1977 and frequently photographed in Josephsohn's studio for many years. This book presents a selection of Hassler's photographs, almost exclusively in black and white, mostly featuring individual sculptures by Josephsohn as the subject, and it highlights the peculiarities of his visual language.
