The Swiss painter Karl Jakob Wegmann (1928-1997) was a hidden gem and an exceptional figure. Throughout his life, he lived a reclusive life in Zurich, where he preferred to inhabit abandoned mansions destined for demolition or renovation. Within the circle described by his writer friend Paul Nizon as the 'Zurich School of the Small Delusion,' he was regarded as a cult figure. By the age of 31, he was already listed among the twelve most important post-war hopes of Swiss art in the magazine Du. Until the 1990s, he created poetic paintings, and from 1961 onwards, he also produced spherical images. Wegmann's fame in Switzerland was significant and was further enhanced by his highly regarded urban vision 'Zurich Gambit' (1975-1980). However, this new book by the renowned art critic Ludmila Vachtova focuses on the extensive representation of Wegmann's artistic work.
