This is the first monograph on the significant French photographer Marcel Gautherot (1910-1996), who moved to Brazil in 1940 and remained there for the rest of his life. Gautherot became famous for his photographs of the construction of the capital Brasília, initially portraying the workers and construction sites, and later capturing the finished buildings in their glamorous elegance. Some of these images are considered icons of modern architectural representation. For the first time, this book provides a comprehensive overview of Gautherot's entire artistic journey: travel and landscape impressions, ethnological explorations, Brazilian customs, everyday scenes, formal experiments, and his engagement with modernist forms. The book brings together 200 carefully reproduced photographs from all phases of his work, enriched with essays by international experts.
