Product details

In 2005, the Swiss Federal Railways were awarded the Wakker Prize by the Swiss Heritage Society for their exemplary handling of their architectural heritage. Although these are prominent buildings, the names of the architects are rarely known. One of them is Max Vogt, who was responsible for the SBB's buildings in Zurich, Eastern Switzerland, and Graubünden from 1957 to 1989. This book presents over a hundred buildings by Max Vogt, including the main signal box at Zurich's main station, the stations Zurich-Altstetten and Killwangen-Spreitenbach, as well as the signal box in Buchs SG. They are all characterized by their strict, cubic design language and the use of exposed concrete – they have significantly shaped the public perception of the railway. Photographs from the SBB Historic information center and a complete inventory of all buildings make this volume a special work.
