As an art dealer, collector, and mediator, Ernst Beyeler, born in 1921, was a significant figure in the international art scene for six decades. The gallery owner and museum founder passed away in the spring of 2010, marking the end of an era. In memory of Ernst Beyeler's life and work, the book featuring Christophe Mory's conversations with Beyeler is now being released in a revised, expanded, and newly illustrated edition. Ernst Beyeler recounts his journey from antiquarian bookseller to renowned art dealer, through whose hands outstanding works of classical modernism passed, making Basel a center of international art trade. He shares stories about collectors, but especially about his encounters with the artists he exhibited, foremost among them Pablo Picasso and Alberto Giacometti.
