In 1867, the young photographer Johann Fetzer (1839-1927) from Coburg, Bavaria, came to Bad Ragaz and opened a photographic studio in the burgeoning Swiss spa town. His descendants continue to run it to this day, now in the fourth generation. For nearly 150 years, they have photographed what seemed meaningful, beautiful, and memorable to them or their clients: wedding couples, families, school classes and clubs, village festivals, landscapes, hamlets, and individual buildings. And of course, spa guests, hotels, employees, as well as the elegant life at the Quellenhof and the natural phenomenon of the Tamina Gorge, which attracted tourists from all over the world. Thus, the Fetzers became visual chroniclers of the Sarganserland region. Their photographs represent an irreplaceable visual memory of their time.
