Founded in Zurich in 1952, Comet Photo AG quickly established itself as a supplier of both documentary and aesthetically high-quality images for the Swiss press. The Comet photographers captured current events and changes in places, landscapes, and society throughout the country. Following a peak in the 1960s and 1970s, the agency experienced a slow decline, culminating in its bankruptcy in 1999. Today, its legacy of nearly one million photographs is housed in the image archive of the ETH Library. In 'Fotomosaik Schweiz', the renowned Swiss historian Georg Kreis presents a selection of around 190 images from themes such as 'On the Way to Modernity', 'Old, Lasting, and Fading', 'Connected to the World', 'Famous and Unknown People', and 'Events'. These images collectively convey a loosely assembled overall picture of Switzerland in the second half of the 20th century.
