The Red Book Hours
English, Jill Mellick, 2018Product details
In 1913, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) began an experiment with himself, which later became known as his exploration of the unconscious. Jung documented his experiences, which he described as active imaginations, in several small journals and transcribed them into a large book bound in red leather, which he called Liber Novus and became famous as The Red Book, first published in 2009. At the heart of The Red Book Hours is Jung's affinity for art as a medium for self-discovery. Australian-American psychologist and multimedia artist Jill Mellick provides an overview of the wealth of research material regarding Jung's engagement with various media and techniques, as well as his meticulous design of spaces to stimulate creative processes.
