Product details

For over 20 years, the Basel-born photographer Tobias Madörin, born in 1965, has been working on the photo series Topos. Whether in Barcelona, São Paulo, or Grindelwald, or in Uganda, Japan, or Indonesia: with his large-format color photographs—essentially tableaux, akin to the grand landscape paintings of the 19th century—Madörin explores cities and landscapes. His interest lies in urban collection points such as football stadiums or city beaches, places on the periphery with bypass roads or landfills, and areas marked by agriculture, mountain, or tunnel construction. Tobias Madörin interprets these living spaces as products of human visions and ideals, but also as results of exploitation, greed, and a struggle for survival with winners and losers—in short, as places full of emotion. Tobias Madörin - Topos is the first monograph to showcase the work of this significant Swiss artist.
