Swiss artist Ueli Berger has been active with his installations and interventions in public spaces since the 1980s: the installation "Hommage an das Milchgässli" at the train station square in Bern (1982), the bell tower for the Protestant church in Savognin (1988), as well as the projects "Ring" in the IMAX of the Verkehrshaus Luzern (1989-1996) and "Hommage an Dieter Roth" at Andreasplatz in Basel (2000), created in collaboration with Susi Berger, are examples of his work. In addition to sculpture, installation, objects, and video, he also engages in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and furniture design. This artist book focuses on a lesser-known aspect of Ueli Berger's oeuvre by showcasing his works on paper from the last 40 years: it provides an overview of his autonomous works, drawings, photographs, photomontages, print graphics, as well as project sketches and drawings for installations. The diversity of styles, media, and materials is characteristic of his work. His artistic interest is not centered on materiality, but rather on other questions, such as the interaction of space, line, and surface, which he continually explores anew.
