Women and girls from Samarkand share their life and everyday experiences. How do they confront the demands of the post-Soviet present as they navigate their actions and thoughts against the backdrop of traditional values and gender ideals, and how can they realize their own desires for their lives? Topics such as family, women's communities, partner selection, and life concepts related to professional plans are explored in interviews from a female perspective. The author sensitively contextualizes these portrayals, creating a multifaceted portrait of Uzbek society from a lesser-known perspective, complemented by ethnographic descriptions.
