Wim Wenders (born 1945) is primarily known for his films such as Paris, Texas, Wings of Desire, and Pina. However, the filmmaker admits, "Photography is the other half of my life." To celebrate his 70th birthday on August 14, 2015, the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf is hosting a retrospective of the artist featuring large-format photographs and landscape panoramas. "When you travel a lot," Wenders writes, "when you like to wander to lose yourself, you can end up in the strangest places. It must be some kind of built-in radar that often leads me to areas that are either strangely quiet or quietly strange." Unlike in filmmaking, photographer Wenders forgoes the latest technical aids.
