Product details

August Macke (1887 - 1914) created an artistic oeuvre in just ten years that was already appreciated by his contemporaries, as evidenced by the numerous exhibitions during his lifetime, and which remains popular to this day. Artists like Franz Marc and Paul Klee perceived his art as sensual, colorful, and life-affirming, incorporating all the innovative currents of the time, before focusing entirely on the effects of light and the brilliance of pure colors around 1910. Light and color characterize not only Macke's street scenes, interiors, and portraits but also his extensive graphic work, which reached its peak in the watercolors from his trip to Tunisia, undertaken with Klee in early 1914. A few months later, Macke fell at the French front - he was 27 years old. Our volume, published in the Library of Classics, provides an overview of his work.
