Approximately 200 paper works by Joseph Beuys (1921-1986), collected by Lothar Schirmer over nearly the entire creative lifespan of the artist from the 1940s until his death, will be exhibited at the Lenbachhaus in Munich starting November 13. Lothar Schirmer first saw the stunning drawings in 1964 at documenta 3 in Kassel and then immediately began collecting them after a visit to the artist's studio in Düsseldorf, before the soon-to-come global fame of the artist curtailed his passion. However, since Joseph Beuys was interested in not scattering his works around the world but rather concentrating them in specific places, Schirmer's collection continued to grow and became more diverse: Alongside the early, romantic pencil drawings and dreamlike watercolors, prints, postcards, paper works, manuscripts, and parts were added.
