Product details
A historically significant document is the large photo portrait of Berlin, created by the Swedish photographer Bernard Larsson (born 1939) between 1961 and 1964, during the first four years after the construction of the wall that divided the city into two parts. His Swedish passport allowed him to photograph both the East and West sides of the city, documenting the living conditions of the citizens of all of Berlin. "Peoples of the world, look at this city!" were the famous words of the Governing Mayor of West Berlin, Ernst Reuter, when the Soviet Union attempted to force West Berlin to capitulate with a supply blockade in 1948. The peoples of the world then again watched intently as the wall finally fell in 1989 after 28 years. It remains Bernard Larsson's achievement to capture the confrontation of the blocs at the moment of its sharpest intensity.
