Product details
The Scream, the most disturbing and today the most famous painting by the Norwegian Edvard Munch (1863-1944), was created like almost all of his important, formative works in the first half of his life. Specifically, it is the period from 1885 to 1900 during which he painted those images that, according to Joseph Beuys, "signal the impending beginning of a new era." Influenced by naturalism, impressionism, and art nouveau, Munch developed a distinct Nordic variant of modern painting during these years, which would pave the way for German expressionism, among other movements. We offer our volume, first published in 1988, featuring an essay and image explanations by art historian Uwe M. Schneede, as an affordable gift book.
