In his drawings, Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) linked perception and thought, the visual and the conceptual. For him, drawing was a medium of knowledge that makes visible both material and immaterial forces, as well as plastic processes in the broadest sense, beyond immediate expression. The intensive collaboration between Joseph Beuys and Bernd Klüser began in 1970 with the creation of the catalog of multiples, published in 1992 by Schirmer/Mosel, and continued until Beuys' death. The closeness to the artist, a kind of lived history of the works, is also reflected in the privately assembled collection. The 150 sheets of the Klüser collection encompass the entire range of Beuys' drawing production, both temporally and thematically. Delicate pencil drawings, brown chalk and hare's blood works, collages, prints, and plastic images showcase the artist's sensitivity to materials.
