The book comprehensively presents the construction task of castles. It focuses not on purely formal aspects, but on functional development. Altered spatial structures and innovative facades emerged from the necessities that arose from the construction task as a representation or private building. Residence castles, hunting and pleasure castles, as well as castles built by women are introduced. For comparison, the buildings of the nobility, including their city palaces and country houses, are also examined.
