For what we typically hope for from intimate relationships often leads to great suffering and loneliness, to conflict and jealousy, which are the darker sides of the positively connoted term. By wanting to hold onto or possess our partners, we destroy what could actually be possible. While this has been considered human since the establishment of romantic love, it is by no means acceptable. Love is not a commodity, but a specific quality of energy or being.
