Product details

Vineyards, mills, and livestock farming once shaped the Nesenbach Valley and the little village of Heslach south of the residential city of Stuttgart. By the 19th century, this image changed dramatically: textile and machinery factories, breweries, and workers' settlements sprang up, the industrial population grew rapidly, and until a few years ago, the roaring through traffic made some parts of southern Stuttgart almost uninhabitable. Today, Werner Buthge can present a vibrant, city-close district with a good quality of life in his new book "From the Cogwheel Railway to the Cable Car: Strolls through Southern Stuttgart." Along his route, streets, squares, and buildings recount significant events, historical developments, and important, sometimes colorful personalities that continue to shape the character of southern Stuttgart to this day.
