The significance of media didactics, which alongside language and literature didactics forms the third pillar of German didactics, is steadily increasing. This is because both the subjects and the competency goals of the German language, as well as the socialization conditions of our students, are undergoing a profound and ongoing media transformation. A primarily book-based German instruction is no longer adequate in light of this change. This volume provides an overview of theoretical foundations, didactic goals, and practical applications of media in German instruction. On one hand, fundamental aspects such as media theory, the concept of media, media history, media education fundamentals, as well as subject-specific media didactic concepts and educational goals are presented in a well-founded and illustrative manner. On the other hand, the specific fields of action in media didactics are addressed.
