This textbook is aimed at teachers and students of German as a foreign and second language in Germany and around the world. It deals with aspects of phonology and phonetics relevant to DaF/DaZ in connection with orthography in an understandable, clear, and stimulating presentation. It informs about the current state of research and provides a bibliographical overview. First of all, the technical basics of phonology, phonetics, norms and variants of German standard pronunciation, orthography, as well as contrastive phonetics (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish) are covered. In addition, the methodological-didactic basics such as progression, possibilities of integration in the classroom, correction and evaluation of pronunciation deviations, selection and analysis are discussed.
