The question of how people, particularly children and adolescents, learn has become one of the most frequently asked and discussed topics since the results of the PISA study became known. This book addresses these current discourses on learning and expands them to include the discourse on active learning. The authors advocate for a perspective on learning that explicitly incorporates embodiment and movement—meaning the active, experiential, and problem-oriented way of engaging with subjects—into the school learning process. The book is divided into two parts: the first part presents and discusses the discourses on learning and the theories of active learning. The second part of the book introduces seven teaching projects focused on active learning from the subjects of general studies, mathematics, language, religion, and physical education.
