Aspiring teachers often find a theoretical engagement with teaching to be unproductive, as many didactic categories are cumbersome and seem to not align with their limited personal teaching experiences. This lack of connection is addressed through the web-based exercises for lesson analysis presented in this volume. Short video clips with accompanying transcripts, as well as worksheets or slides when applicable, encourage theory-driven analysis: Each didactic aspect, such as learning objectives, lesson introduction, task assignment, group work, discussion management, or evaluation, is related to a recorded segment of teaching. On one hand, this deepens the understanding of the respective aspect. On the other hand, a close examination of the teaching situation clarifies that didactically.
