Product details

A nearly unknown chapter in the history of the Native American population of the USA is being uncovered: the conversion of the Sioux. Manuel Menrath takes his readers back to the time of the Wild West and to the places of events that today’s members of this tribe often remember with sadness and bitterness. Hardly anyone in Europe knows that a large portion of the Sioux now belong to the Catholic Church. Once, they were considered the most warlike people in what is now the USA. Under their leaders Red Cloud and Sitting Bull, they instilled fear in the white invaders. However, when the buffalo were nearly exterminated and the army occupied their last hunting grounds, the warriors had to retreat to the reservation with their families. There, they were missionized and civilized by the Benedictine Martin Marty from Einsiedeln, along with German and Swiss assistants.
