In this book, Gerhard Mantel explores the question of what means and tools an interpreter should possess to transform a musical score into the spiritual and emotional experience intended by the composer. As is well known, the "actual music" is not yet present in the printed work. What aesthetic and design criteria exist for how the interpreter can or must handle the score in order to interpret it and explain it to the listener? The sound conception, the internal anticipation of the musical effect, is a crucial prerequisite for interpretation. Furthermore, it is important to understand the basis of this effect and how it can be achieved.
