First, there is Sole from Chad, then Rana from Syria. When Sole's wife and children also find refuge in the cooperative housing complex Heimbau eG, Kai Hinrichsen's peace is shattered. The journalist and style critic actually has enough on his plate with his research on Johannes Eisenbach, a post-war writer who mingled with the literary greats of his time, yet seems to have left no literary legacy. As more and more people living illegally in Germany populate the community garden of the housing complex, resistance arises among the residents, and eventually, the state authorities get involved. Of all people, Kai is supposed to mediate between the parties.
