November 1989: The border is ceremoniously dismantled. Through a multitude of characters, fates, and stories, Schubumkehr describes the course of this year, in which ultimately "no stone should be left unturned." At the center of the events is Roman, a middle-aged man who returns to Austria after an extended stay abroad. Instead of familiar contexts, he is confronted with private grotesques and tragedies; instead of rigid conditions, he experiences how they begin to dance.
