In the mid-1970s, the aesthetic vocabulary of film soundtracks began to change noticeably. Suddenly, screeching jets zoomed over the audience's heads, and helicopters flew through all four quadrants of the cinema space. The Dolby Stereo logo also made its appearance on the screen, along with the job title Sound Designer in the credits. The book "Sound Design - The Virtual Sound World of Film" deals with the transformation of sound aesthetics from 1975 to 1995. Its objective can be described as follows: to illuminate conventions and apparent certainties of soundtracks, to understand their functions as carriers of meaning, and to make the complex architecture of a virtual sound world comprehensible.
