Children want and should play. They can vary greatly in their joy of playing, skill, and endurance. For occupational therapists working with children, a key task is to observe and promote play. Anita Bundy and Geva Skard have developed a model for play ability. The present test focuses on motivation, creativity, skill, enjoyment, endurance, and social behavior when observing children at play. The accompanying test for environmental support helps keep an eye on the external circumstances of the play situation: safety, access to spaces and toys, as well as the behavior of playmates and adults. Two detailed case studies illustrate how observations are recorded, evaluated, and presented in a profile sheet.
