The frequency of autoimmune diseases in our society is steadily increasing. Often, women who wish to have children also suffer from an autoimmune disease. As treatment options have continuously improved in recent years, women affected by autoimmune diseases are increasingly choosing to become pregnant. In contrast, the fact remains that the data on various medications and their potential effects on pregnancy is generally insufficient. It is ethically unacceptable to test new drugs on pregnant women in clinical trials. Therefore, recommendations for use during pregnancy often rely on findings from preclinical animal studies or individual case reports. Systematic observation and follow-up of pregnant women with autoimmune diseases is therefore of great importance.
