Taxi driver Jürgen Krause is initially not particularly impressed by his passenger, an older, somewhat arrogant gentleman with a gloomy-melancholic aura, who introduces himself as Federico Temperini. However, gradually his guest reveals insights into his lonely life and his obsession with the "devil's violinist" Niccolò Paganini. Krause becomes curious, and a kind of friendship develops between the two very different men. Meanwhile, Krause has his own worries, as he fears losing contact with his teenage son Leo since his ex-wife has a new partner. It takes him a while to realize that the conversations with the older gentleman are beneficial for him as well. When Temperini dies, Krause takes several steps to honor him.
