"Announcing" is the first publication of two texts by Max Frisch: 1981, the year of his seventieth birthday, was a significant year for Max Frisch both biographically and literarily. After his divorce from his second wife Marianne, he now lives in New York - together with Alice Locke-Carey, known to Frisch readers as "Lynn" from the 1975 story Montauk. In Zurich, the Max Frisch Archive is established at ETH, and in the summer and autumn of that year, the story Blaubart is created. At the same time, Frisch writes two lectures that he delivers in English at the City College of New York in early November 1981. Both lectures are a journey through his work and also serve as a tool for self-examination and exploration: What impulses drive the urge to write? What can literature achieve? And for what purpose? Max Frisch's lectures are a manifesto: a confession.
