Grandiose, self-righteous, egomaniacal: Narcissists in the workplace. Many interpersonal conflicts at work arise from narcissistic maneuvers aimed at boosting self-esteem, thereby reducing others to mere cheerleaders for their own greatness or devaluing them as incompetent fools. Blinded by their own competence and superiority, these individuals lose touch with others and focus solely on maintaining their position and power. Behind this lies an invisible fear of not being good enough and possibly failing. Under these circumstances, an equal working relationship is made difficult, if not completely hopeless.
