Plotinus (205-270) is considered the true founder of Neoplatonism, the spiritual fusion of ancient Greek philosophy with Eastern and Christian mysticism. His work, divided into individual writings called the "Enneads," follows the main theme that the multiplicity of the finite must be traced back to an absolute One, which reveals itself to the soul not through knowledge, but in mystical ecstasy.
