About the book: In the GDR, aircraft construction always had an air of mystery after its demise in March 1961. Historically interested individuals could only learn about its brief five-year history from older editions of "Wings of the Homeland," later known as Aerosport, or a few other aviation publications after the end of the GDR aviation industry. These publications, barely more than small mosaic pieces in the overall picture, were of course still influenced by the enthusiasm of the aircraft builders and the excitement of the press for the bold and ambitious project, which was intended to play a significant role within the economic framework of the GDR and was meant to demonstrate the superiority of socialism over capitalism. This made it all the more surprising and painful for everyone involved.
