Product details

In the age of postmodernism, theories of subjectivity and self-consciousness are hardly in demand. The "death of the subject" is considered a given. The prevailing philosophical discourse, dominated by theories of intersubjectivity and communication, has largely displaced self-consciousness, at best recognizing it as an epiphenomenon. Nevertheless, the assertion by Manfred Frank is that self-consciousness not only holds an undeniable position in the history of philosophy as a crystallization point of modern thought, but also remains a fundamentally unresolved core problem of philosophy with significant relevance. He presents the evidence for this thesis in the current volume.
