During an award ceremony, Suguro, a respected Japanese writer, is approached by a drunken woman who claims to know him from Tokyo's red-light district. From that moment on, he is confronted with an ever-growing array of accusations and rumors that threaten his marriage, his honor, and his very existence. Suguro embarks on a quest to find the "doppelgänger," as he is convinced that this lecherous, treacherous person could very well be himself. His search leads him into a world of sexuality and perversion. Gradually, he realizes that the evil surrounding him may be rooted within himself, and that the degenerate portrait of the doppelgänger could be his own face.
